The growth in population requires the increased use of fertilizers to ensure adequate
supplies of food. Phosphates are broken down with sulphuric or hydrochloric acid and the
phosphoric acid obtained in this manner is brought to the required concentration with the
aid of evaporation processes. All the components and items of apparatus in the plant that
come into contact with the acids must be reliably protected against corrosion. Over many
tens of years rubber has proved its reliability and cost-effectiveness for this field. The
metal surfaces of the reaction tanks, agitators, evaporation vessels, storage tanks, heat
exchangers, piping, etc. are effectively protected with rubber. The material rubber is
well able to satisfy the variety of requirements placed on it in this field:
· Resistance to elevated temperatures up to 100°C and higher
· Resistant to abrasion by particles of solid matter
· Vacuumtight bond with metal surface
· Chemical resistance
The size of the different components means that lining with hard rubber and soft rubber
must be carried out on site. The quality of rubber linings applied on the construction
site are comparable with that of those applied in the works.
